Classes and Competitions
ROCKY MOUNTAIN VINTAGE MOTOCROSS CLUB
The race classes are listed below. Classes may be subdivided by skill level, displacement, or age.
For example, if you have a 1972 Yamaha MX250, are of an intermediate ability level, and are over 50 years old (but less than 60) your sign up classes could be:
Vintage 250, Intermediate and race against other pre-1975 250's, with riders of any age
and/or
Vintage Age Group, +50, Intermediate and race against other pre-1975 bikes of any displacement, with riders who are +50
Note: You may race down an age bracket but not up. You may race up a displacement bracket but not down.
Race Classes
Classic Stock
Bikes 1971 and earlier.
2 or 4 stroke, Minimum 125cc, maximum 650cc. Travel limits, front 7", rear 4". Minimum wheel size 19" front, 17" rear. (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
Vintage
Bikes pre-1975 by Displacement.
Up to 74 (& like design). Era correct travel limits. Max travel, front 7", rear 4". No modifications allowed that exceed the OEM travel for a bike.
125, 250, Open (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
Vintage Age Group
Bikes pre-1975 by rider age, Era correct travel limits per above.
Age Groups: under 40, +40, +50, +60, +70 (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
GP 1
Bikes 1975-1977 Maximum travel 9 inches front and rear, no disc brakes.
All displacements. (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
GP 2-3
Bikes 1978-1981 & 1982-1984 by displacement, no disc brakes.
125, 250, Open (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
GP 4-Stroke
Any air-cooled 4-Stroke powered machine. Drum brakes only, no disc brakes. By displacement.
250, Open (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
GP Age Group
Bikes 1975-1984 by rider age, no disc brakes.
Age Groups: under 40, +40, +50, +60, +70 (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
D1
Bikes with front disc and rear drum brake from the manufacturer by displacement.
125, 250, Open (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
D2
Bikes with front and rear disc brakes; 2 & 4 Strokes by date and displacement.
125 -125cc two-strokes up to 2004 (& like design) , air-cooled four-strokes up to 250cc (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
250 -250cc two-strokes up to 2004 (& like design), four-strokes up to 400cc up to 2000 model year (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
Open -Open two-strokes up to 2004, open four-stroke up to 2000 model year (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
D1-D2 Age Group
Bikes circa 1986-2004 by rider age, front or front and rear disc brakes.
Age Groups: under 40, +40, +50, +60, +70 (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
Modern
Bikes 2001 to current model year by displacement.
250 (& 150 cc 2-Stroke), Open (& 300 cc 2-Stroke) (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
Modern Age Group
Bikes 2001 to current model year by rider age.
Age Groups: under 40, +40, +50, +60, +70 (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
100cc Shoot Out
Any 100cc bike. Up to GP era (and like design) 100cc two-stroke and air cooled 4-stroke up to 200 cc. Minimum wheel size 19" front, 16" rear, drum brakes. (Novice, Intermediate, Expert) No age group/year classes. In order for this class to run in its own moto, a minimum number of 10 riders will be required.
Enduro
This class is open to any era Enduro bike - from the factory with lights. Minimum wheel size 19" front, 16" rear. This is an entry class - there are no ability, displacement, or age group classes.
Women (This class will run in its own MOTO)
Any bike size or era, female rider. This is an entry class - no displacement, or age group classes. (Novice, Intermediate, Expert)
Kids Any bike size or era No specific age group classes. See guidelines below.
Kids 50: 50cc 2-stroke AND 90cc 4-stroke (age guideline, up to 8 yrs) MINI-TRACK "FUN CLASS FOR BEGINNERS ONLY"
Kids 65: 65cc 2-stroke AND 110cc 4-stroke (age guideline, 7-11 yrs) (Nov, Int, Exp)
Kids 85: 85cc 2-stroke and 150cc 4-stroke (age guideline, 9-15 yrs old) (Nov, Int, Exp)
Kids Super-mini: 115cc 2-stroke and 150cc 4-stroke (age guideline, 12-15 yrs old) (Nov, Int, Exp)
Kids Open: 125 cc 2- stroke and 250 cc 4-stroke (age guideline, 14-15 yrs old) (Nov, Int, Exp)
Ability Level Descriptions:
Expert - Experienced racer. Previous Expert status, or used to be really fast. Very good to excellent track skills.
Intermediate - More experienced racer. If you have been racing modern bikes or vintage bikes with another club you should at least be intermediate.
Novice - Has riding experience, new to very limited racing experience.
